AI search and visibility (AEO, GEO)

AI assistants now answer questions that used to send people to ten blue links. Being named in those answers depends on consistent facts, structured data, credible reviews and pages that state things plainly. We have worked on how machines understand businesses for more than a decade, first in enterprise search and local listings, now in AI answers.

Questions we answer most

Where do AI assistants get their information about businesses?

Two places: what the model learned in training, and what it retrieves live from the web when search is turned on. For local and recent questions, live retrieval dominates, which means maps and business profiles, directories and data aggregators, review sites, your own website and third-party articles all feed the answer.

Is AEO or GEO different from SEO?

The foundation is the same: accurate facts, crawlable pages, structured data and credible mentions. What changes is measurement. Classic SEO tracks rankings and clicks; AI visibility tracks whether you're named, how you're described and which sources the assistant cited.

How do you measure AI visibility?

Pick 25 to 50 real buyer questions, ask each assistant the same way every month, and log who was named, in what order and which sources were cited. A fixed question set is the only way to see real movement, because individual answers vary day to day.

Should we block AI crawlers in robots.txt?

Usually not, if you want to be recommended. Blocking crawlers used for AI search can keep your pages out of the answers. Some businesses block training crawlers while allowing search crawlers; that choice depends on your content and goals, and it should be deliberate rather than a vendor default.

Does llms.txt matter?

It is a simple, low-cost file that summarizes your site for language models. Support varies by assistant, so treat it as a helpful extra, not a substitute for clear pages and structured data.
